How do they differ?
Both are general chat assistants that developers use for code, writing and research, and many keep a subscription to one and a free account on the other. ChatGPT, from OpenAI, has the broader consumer feature set: image generation, voice, custom GPTs and the largest user base. Claude, from Anthropic, is often chosen for long documents, careful writing and coding help, with Projects to keep context across conversations. Developers tend to settle on the one whose answers they trust for their own kind of work, and switch when a new model release changes that.
