About Black
Black is a Python code formatter that automatically reformats code to enforce a consistent style. Developers use it to eliminate formatting debates and reduce the mental effort spent on code presentation, allowing them to focus on content during code review. The tool produces deterministic output - the same code formatted the same way regardless of the project - and generates minimal diffs to speed up review cycles. Black verifies that reformatted code maintains valid syntax and semantics equivalent to the original.
Black is developed by the Python Software Foundation and is licensed under the MIT license. The tool is designed to be opinionated about style choices, removing the need for developers to make those decisions themselves. It includes a comprehensive test suite with parallel testing and continuous integration support.
