About cargo-msrv
cargo-msrv is a command-line tool that helps developers find, set, show, or verify the minimum supported Rust version for their Rust projects. It can also list the minimum supported versions of a project's dependencies. The tool works by testing a project against various Rust toolchains to determine the earliest version that successfully compiles the code. It supports two search strategies: bisect, which uses binary search for faster results, and linear, which tests toolchains from newest to oldest. Developers can configure which command to run during testing, with cargo check as the default.
The tool was developed by foresterre and is licensed under the Apache 2.0 license. It is written in Rust and integrates with the Cargo package manager. cargo-msrv supports multiple output formats and can be used in continuous integration workflows to verify that projects maintain their declared minimum supported versions.
