About cmux
cmux is a macOS terminal application designed specifically for running coding agents. It features a sidebar that displays the status of each terminal session, vertical tabs, notification alerts when agents need attention, split panes for multitasking, and a scriptable API for automation. The terminal is built on top of Ghostty's rendering engine and includes an in-app browser alongside terminal sessions. It supports various coding agents that run from the command line and can organize multiple agents spawned by a parent agent into native panes instead of background processes. Remote workflows are supported through SSH connections and tmux session attachment.
The application was developed by manaflow-ai and is written in Swift using native AppKit rather than Electron, making it lightweight and GPU-accelerated. cmux is free and open source, distributed under the GPL license. It includes an iOS companion app in beta that syncs terminals to iPhone and iPad in real time, with optional notification forwarding. The tool provides extensive keyboard shortcuts for workspace navigation, splits, and browser control, along with programmability through a CLI and socket API.

- OSC 7501 program status: how your terminal knows an agent is waiting on you, and what to wire up today
OSC 7501 lets a program tell the terminal it is working, blocked, done or failed. Claude Code, Pi and Crush send it; few terminals show it yet.
