About cocoindex-code
CocoIndex Code is an abstract syntax tree-based code search engine designed to provide semantic context for AI coding agents. It enables developers to search code by meaning rather than string matching, and provides features like call graphs, symbol tables, and semantic indexing that stay synchronized with repository changes. The tool is available as a command-line interface, an agent skill, or an MCP server, and works with codebases of any size. It is developed by cocoindex-io under the Apache 2.0 license.
The tool emphasizes incremental processing, updating only the portions of code that have changed rather than reindexing entire repositories, which allows it to maintain fresh context with sub-second latency. CocoIndex Code integrates with coding agents, code-review agents, and security-review agents, helping developers understand dependencies, identify the impact of changes, and detect duplicates across repositories. It is written in Python and built as part of a larger incremental data framework for AI agents.

- Agent context compression tools: Headroom, RTK, Engram, Attic and how each one measured its saving
Seven tools sit between a coding agent and the model as of October 2026. Every headline saving is self-measured, and RTK is the safest place to start.
