About Cython
Cython is a compiler that translates Python code into C, making it possible to write C extensions for Python with Python syntax. It combines Python's readability with C's performance by allowing developers to add static type declarations to Python code, which the compiler then converts to efficient C code. The tool supports calling C and C++ functions natively and works with existing C libraries and applications. Developers use Cython to speed up computationally intensive Python code, wrap external libraries, and integrate Python with legacy systems.
Cython is developed by cython and released under the Apache License. The compiler generates C code that works with major C and C++ compilers and supports multiple Python implementations including CPython and PyPy. It runs on Linux, macOS, Windows and other Unix-like operating systems. The tool is particularly useful for data-heavy applications, such as those working with NumPy arrays, and for building performance-critical modules within the CPython ecosystem.
