About D3.js

D3.js is a JavaScript library for creating custom data visualizations using SVG, Canvas, and HTML. Developers use it to build interactive charts, maps, and other graphical representations by binding data to visual elements and applying transformations. The library provides tools for selections and transitions to update the DOM based on data, scales and axes for encoding data into visual properties, shape rendering for geometric primitives, and interaction behaviors like panning and zooming. It includes layout algorithms for treemaps, force-directed graphs, and geographic projections, along with utilities for data parsing and formatting.

D3.js is developed by Jeffrey Heer and Mike Bostock. The library is cross-platform and released under the 3-clause BSD License. The developers also maintain Observable Plot, a higher-level charting API built on top of D3 for creating quick visualizations.
