About etcd

etcd is a distributed key-value store designed to reliably store critical data in distributed systems and clusters of machines. It provides strong consistency and handles leader elections during network partitions, tolerating machine failures including loss of the leader node. The store offers a simple interface for reading and writing values, supports hierarchical organization of data, and allows watching specific keys or directories for changes. It uses the Raft protocol for distributed consensus and supports optional features like SSL client certificate authentication and time-to-live expiration for keys.

etcd is developed by etcd-io and is licensed under Apache 2.0. It is built with Go and serves as a CNCF project, widely used in systems requiring reliable distributed data storage and coordination across multiple nodes.
