About Fiona

Fiona is a Python library for reading and writing geographic data files in various formats. It streams simple feature data to and from GIS formats like GeoPackage and Shapefile, handling multi-layered formats, zipped archives, in-memory virtual file systems, and data from local storage or cloud services. The library provides both Python modules and a command line interface for working with geospatial vector data.

Fiona is developed by Toblerity and is licensed under the BSD 3-Clause license. It integrates with GDAL and OGR libraries to support a wide range of geographic data formats and coordinate reference system transformations. The tool allows developers to stream and filter geographic features efficiently, making it suitable for processing real-world geospatial datasets of varying sizes and sources.
