About Grafana
Grafana is an open-source analytics and monitoring platform that helps developers visualize and analyze metrics, logs, traces, profiles, and other observability data. It provides dashboarding and data visualization capabilities, allowing teams to monitor infrastructure, applications, and systems in real-time. The tool supports integration with various data sources and is built on open standards like OpenTelemetry and Prometheus, enabling users to connect existing tools without vendor lock-in.
Grafana was developed by Carl Bergquist, Marcus Efraimsson, Ryan McKinley, and Torkel Ödegaard. The platform is written in Go and TypeScript and runs on Linux, Microsoft Windows, and macOS. While the core project is open-source, Grafana Cloud offers a commercial observability platform built on the same open standards, providing features such as AI-powered insights, incident response tools, synthetic monitoring, and cost optimization capabilities.
