About Helix
Helix is a modal text editor designed for the terminal, built in Rust with language server protocol support built-in. It provides multiple selections as a core feature for editing, tree-sitter integration for syntax highlighting and code navigation, and various IDE-like capabilities such as auto-completion, diagnostics, and fuzzy finding without additional configuration. The editor runs natively in the terminal without requiring Electron or external dependencies, making it lightweight for use over SSH or within terminal multiplexers.
Developed by helix-editor, Helix is licensed under the Mozilla Public License, version 2.0. It is available on FreeBSD, Windows, OpenBSD, Unix-like systems, and macOS. The project draws inspiration from modal editing paradigms while providing more built-in features than some comparable editors, aiming to offer a modern set of defaults that require less configuration to get started.
