About kafkactl
Kafkactl is a command-line tool for interacting with Apache Kafka clusters. It simplifies management of Kafka topics, brokers, partitions, consumer groups, and users through terminal commands. The tool supports operations like creating, altering, and deleting topics and consumer groups, as well as producing and consuming messages. It also provides capabilities for managing access control lists, users, and cluster configuration. The tool is developed by deviceinsight and released under the Apache 2.0 license.
Kafkactl is written in Go and integrates with shell environments including Fish and Zsh for auto-completion. It supports working with Avro and Protocol Buffer message formats and can be used with Kubernetes. The tool uses configuration files for managing different cluster contexts, allowing developers to switch between Kafka environments and store credentials through the system keyring.
