About MacTeX
MacTeX is a TeX distribution for macOS that provides everything needed to typeset documents using TeX and LaTeX. It installs the full version of TeX Live, which is the standard distribution of TeX and related programs maintained by TeX Users Groups worldwide. The distribution includes native support for both Intel and Arm processors and comes fully configured and ready to use after installation. MacTeX is developed by leuski and is licensed under the BSD 3-Clause license.
The MacTeX package installs various typesetting systems including TeX, LaTeX, XeTeX, LuaTeX, and ConTeXt. It supports multiple written languages, from Western European to Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, Chinese, Japanese, and many others. A smaller variant called BasicTeX is also available for users who need a lighter installation. Both versions require macOS 11 Big Sur or higher, though older versions of MacTeX support earlier macOS releases.
