About MCP Inspector
MCP Inspector is a developer tool for testing and debugging Model Context Protocol servers. It provides interactive tooling available in multiple interfaces: a graphical inspector in the browser, a command-line client for scripting and CI pipelines, and a terminal UI for environments where a browser is not available. All three clients share the same underlying core, ensuring consistent behavior across connection types, configuration handling, and protocol support.
The tool is developed by modelcontextprotocol and written in TypeScript. It ships as a single package that includes three client implementations along with an experimental connection client for maintaining persistent server connections. MCP Inspector requires Node.js and runs directly through npx without requiring installation, making it accessible for developers who need to inspect and debug MCP server implementations.
