About nb
nb is a command-line and local web application for creating and managing plain text notes, bookmarks, and archives. Developers use it to organize information with features including tagging, linking, search functionality, and revision history. The tool supports multiple text formats such as Markdown, Org, LaTeX, and AsciiDoc, and integrates with popular text editors and web browsers. It also provides bookmark management with full-text search and Internet Archive Wayback Machine lookup capabilities.
The application uses Git to automatically track changes and sync notebooks with remote repositories, and supports encryption for private, password-protected notes. nb is distributed as a single portable shell script that works across Linux, Unix, macOS, and Windows environments via WSL, MSYS, and Cygwin. Optional dependencies can enhance functionality, but the tool operates effectively without them. It was developed by xwmx and is licensed under AGPL 3.0.
