About NetBeans
NetBeans is an integrated development environment for writing and maintaining applications in Java, JavaScript, PHP, HTML5, CSS and other languages. The tool provides code editors with syntax and semantic highlighting, refactoring capabilities, and wizards and templates to help developers build applications. It functions as a development environment, tooling platform and application framework. NetBeans runs on Windows, Linux, macOS and other operating systems that support Java. The Apache Software Foundation, Oracle Corporation and Sun Microsystems developed the tool, which is licensed under the Apache Software License 2.0.
The IDE is written in Java and emphasizes cross-platform compatibility through its write-once-run-anywhere approach. NetBeans offers a range of tools for code editing and project development, with community-driven development involving mailing lists, GitHub contributions and collaborative discussions. The project maintains documentation and tutorials for users and welcomes participation through pull requests, issue reporting and documentation improvements.
