About Nub

Nub is a toolkit for building and running JavaScript applications with Node.js. It functions as a TypeScript-first runtime, package manager, script runner, and Node version manager in a single tool. Developers use it to run TypeScript, JSX, and JavaScript files directly on stock Node, execute package.json scripts faster than standard package managers, manage dependencies, and switch between Node versions. The tool transpiles code using Rust and the oxc compiler before running it on the actual Node binary, avoiding lock-in to a custom runtime.

Nub is developed by nubjs and is licensed under the MIT license. The toolkit is distributed as a single Rust binary and supports Node.js 18 LTS and newer. It handles TypeScript features like enums and parameter properties that Node's built-in type stripping cannot process, automatically loads environment variables from .env files, and respects tsconfig.json configuration including path aliases and extends declarations.
