About RTK
RTK is a command-line proxy written in Rust that reduces the amount of output from common development commands before the text reaches an AI coding agent. It works as a thin layer between the CLI and AI tools, filtering out noise while preserving information relevant to reasoning. The tool operates with zero configuration required and supports over 125 commands. RTK is developed by rtk-ai and released under the Apache 2.0 license.
The proxy is designed to lower token consumption for large language models by condensing CLI output, typically reducing it by an average of 56 percent or up to 90 percent on particularly verbose commands. This approach helps keep AI agents within their context windows, allowing them to reason more effectively without the cost and latency overhead of processing unnecessary information. RTK is distributed as a single Rust binary with no external dependencies.

Seven tools sit between a coding agent and the model as of October 2026. Every headline saving is self-measured, and RTK is the safest place to start.
