About ScriptC
ScriptC is a compiler that transforms TypeScript code into native machine code executables. It produces small, fast binaries without requiring Node.js, V8, or any JavaScript engine in the resulting binary. The compiler uses the standard TypeScript type checker and supports ordinary TypeScript features including classes, closures, and async-await. Code can be organized into three tiers: constructs compiled statically to native code by default, optional dynamic execution through an embedded JavaScript engine for code that cannot be statically compiled, and constructs rejected at compile time with specific error messages.
Developed by vercel-labs and licensed under Apache 2.0, ScriptC aims to minimize binary size and startup time. A basic hello-world binary produced by the compiler is approximately 320KB and starts in about 4 milliseconds. The tool includes a coverage reporting feature that shows developers, statement by statement, which parts of their code compile statically, which require the dynamic engine, and which cannot be compiled. ScriptC requires no code annotations or special syntax beyond standard TypeScript.
