About Strands Agents
Strands Agents is an open-source toolkit for building AI agents in Python and TypeScript. It provides an agent harness and SDK that developers use to construct production-ready agents, along with supporting components including a sandboxed shell environment, evaluation tools, and experimental research features. The toolkit enables developers to configure models, attach tools, manage agent memory and sessions, coordinate multi-agent systems, and deploy agents to various cloud platforms and container environments.
Developed by AWS, Strands Agents is released as open-source software. The toolkit includes built-in capabilities for structured output handling, tool call interventions, context management, observability features, and integrations with multiple AI model providers. Developers can use the harness directly for quick setup or build custom harnesses from the SDK, and the platform supports deployment across services like AWS Lambda, Amazon ECS, Kubernetes, and Docker.
