About Terragrunt
Terragrunt is an orchestration tool for infrastructure as code that works with Terraform and OpenTofu. It helps developers manage growing infrastructure complexity by reducing code repetition through reusable configurations, includes, and hooks. The tool allows teams to organize infrastructure into manageable units with their own state, control what gets updated and in what order, and automate tasks that happen before or after infrastructure changes. Terragrunt is developed by gruntwork-io and licensed under MIT.
The tool addresses common infrastructure challenges by letting developers break down monolithic setups into independent segments, handle expected errors from cloud providers automatically, and standardize infrastructure patterns for reuse across organizations. It supports executing modules in dependency order across different environments and provides features like a terminal user interface for managing infrastructure catalogs. A free CI/CD pipeline is available for infrastructure orchestration with Terragrunt.
