About tsx
tsx is a Node.js enhancement that allows developers to run TypeScript and ESM files directly without configuration. It functions as a drop-in replacement for the node command, accepting the same CLI flags and arguments. The tool uses esbuild for fast TypeScript compilation and supports both CommonJS and ESM module formats, enabling seamless interoperability between them. tsx also includes a watch mode that automatically re-runs files when code changes, helping with development iteration.
tsx was developed by privatenumber and is licensed under the MIT license. The project emerged to address fragmentation in the Node.js ecosystem as packages migrated to ES Modules, offering a simpler alternative to existing TypeScript execution tools. It supports tsconfig.json path configuration and is designed with minimal setup requirements, making it accessible to developers of all experience levels.
