About UTM

UTM is a system emulator and virtual machine tool that allows users to run operating systems on macOS. It supports virtualizing Windows, Linux, and macOS itself on Apple Silicon Macs, as well as emulating various processor architectures including ARM, x86, PowerPC, MIPS, and RISC-V. The tool leverages Apple's Hypervisor virtualization framework for near-native performance on compatible systems and uses QEMU for additional emulation capabilities. It is designed specifically for macOS with a native interface and privacy-focused architecture.

UTM is developed by utmapp and released under the Apache 2.0 license. The software is free and open source, with no features restricted between versions. It is available both as a standalone download and through the Mac App Store, with the latter providing automatic updates. The tool is written in Swift and aims to provide QEMU's flexibility without requiring extensive command-line configuration.
