About youtube-dl
youtube-dl is a command-line tool for downloading videos from YouTube and other video hosting sites. Developers use it to retrieve video content from the web for offline viewing or archival purposes. The tool is written in Python and works across multiple platforms including Windows, macOS, Unix-like systems and BSD. It requires a Python interpreter to run, though a Windows executable version that includes Python is also available.
The tool was developed by Sergey M and is released under the Unlicense, placing it in the public domain. This means users can modify, redistribute and use the software however they choose. The project maintains documentation and provides support through community channels for developers who want to use or contribute to the tool.
