About Zig

Zig is a general-purpose programming language and toolchain designed for writing robust, optimal and reusable software. Developers use it for systems programming and as a drop-in C and C++ compiler with built-in cross-compilation support. The language emphasizes simplicity by avoiding hidden control flow, hidden memory allocations, preprocessors and macros, allowing developers to focus on debugging applications rather than language features.

Zig includes a compile-time code execution feature called comptime that enables metaprogramming through compile-time function calls and type manipulation without runtime overhead. The toolchain provides a build system for creating consistent development environments across platforms. Developers can incrementally integrate Zig into existing C and C++ projects, or add Zig compilation units to expose its standard library to C and C++ code. The Zig Software Foundation, a non-profit corporation, supports the language's development.
