About GraphQL
GraphQL is a query language and runtime for building application programming interfaces. Developers use it to define strongly-typed schemas that describe relationships between data, allowing them to request exactly the information they need from APIs. The language works with existing code and databases, making it possible to evolve APIs over time without being locked to a specific storage system.
GraphQL is developed by the GraphQL Foundation, Meta Platforms, and the community, and is distributed under the 3-clause BSD License. The tool provides a type system that enables development tools to validate queries, while also allowing monitoring and security controls over API usage. Its architecture supports frontend and backend teams working independently and efficiently, reducing coordination overhead in distributed development environments.
