About Vinext

Vinext is a Vite plugin that reimplements the Next.js API surface, allowing developers to run Next.js applications on Vite and deploy them to various hosting platforms. It supports the App Router, Pages Router, React Server Components, server actions, incremental static regeneration, middleware, and other Next.js features while maintaining compatibility with existing app structure and configuration files. Developed by Cloudflare and released under the MIT license, Vinext is built as an open-source project that leverages Vite's plugin ecosystem and native ESM support.

The tool is designed to provide faster development loops and smaller bundle sizes compared to the standard Next.js build pipeline. It supports deployment to Cloudflare Workers with a single command, and works with other platforms including Netlify, AWS, Deno Deploy, and Node.js through Nitro. Production features like caching, image optimization, and pre-rendering are available out of the box on Cloudflare Workers, with sensible defaults that can be customized as needed.
